yep.
not the forum. the domain name. after multiple attempts, i simply couldn't find the time/money/energy to do what i wanted to do with it: make a community-based-and-updated local events calendar for knoxvegas. i'd love to see it hit a real local events calendar. pm me for info, but i've invested hundreds of $$$ in it already. ... admins, delete this msg if it's inappropriate. i just figured it's somehow related to the local music scene and its future. |

for what it's worth, the domain name is being sold separately from ownership of the old forum.
knoxshows.com is the domain name and the idea that i've put literally hundreds of dollars of time, energy and money into. the old proboards forum still exists, and ownership of it will probably be sold for less than $20 since it's only used primarily for band-based classifieds for those in the know. if you want the URL for the forum, pm me. it's no longer associated with knoxshows.com I'm evaluating all offers on Dec 8th and will make a decision to sell (or not) then. ... the last idea i had for knoxshows was pointing it at a google calendar which would be a collection of google calendars for local venues... easy to use, easy to customize. each venue can easily control and manage their own google calendar, and it's easy to create a collection of such local calendars of your choosing in one view. and google calendars are free to set up and run. the biggest problem i had was in contacting local venues and getting them to update their information online in a regular fashion. and i ran out of time and interest in maintaining a list of events myself. using something like google calendars would also allow festival, theater and art events to be listed if the viewer wanted as well. ... the idea i had BEFORE that was to get knoxblab to create a new section for local events and just point knoxshows.com to that new section, but that was a no-go for various reasons. the idea i had before that was to get people and venues to post entries on the proboards forum. the idea before that was to get people and venues to post events on a customized calendarscript which used to run at knoxshows.com. before that, the local calendar was simply an html table that i edited myself. before that, someone else owned it. in fact, the local calendar was always a static html table before i bought the site and forum... and one that wasn't always updated regularly or comprehensive. ... ultimately, it's a duplication of efforts. between KV, MP, and KNS (and at one time Knoxville520), there was simply no need for an all-inclusive local calendar. what knoxshows offered was a way for local venues and bands to add their own events, pics and links, and to update or modify those events even after "submission". the ability to directly add pics and links and to directly modify the event after submission is still lacking in the "big media" calendars listed above. i thought the community-updated feature would be what set knoxshows apart, rather than a few people adding listings and info whenever we could. i even had friendly conversations w/ WUTK about joint ad sharing, but ultimately when i realized i was not going to be able to get the venues and local bands to submit their own information, there wouldn't really be anything worth advertising except my own failed attempts. ... so now i've grown tired of trying, and i'm ready to sell the domain name to the highest bidder. i know it's an excellent web address, regardless of how much you might know about the old discussion forum that used to be behind the name. the price? $1000 is the minimum i've pitched to the local powers-that-be, and while that's higher than i paid for years ago, it's still a rough estimate of what i've put into it in total. if i don't get an offer that high, i might settle for less or i might just wait for a better opportunity to sell. or i might take the domain and try again, if i ever find the time and energy. but i'd rather give up and cash out and see it actually put to good use now, even if the community-driven aspect is lost. here's the email i sent out to a few contacts at Scripps, KNS, MP, KV and AC Entertainment. I have several other entities I'm contacting about this as well...
To whom it may interest, The web domain of KNOXSHOWS.COM, which has housed Knoxville's longest-running local music forum for the last 8+ years, is now for sale. The forum to which it points is practically defunct and will no longer be associated with that domain name. KnoxShows.com is easy to remember, very descriptive and a catchy way to advertise your local event calendar. I am asking for a minimum of $1000 as I'm not going to throw away the money and time I've invested in purchasing and maintaining the domain over the years, but it *will* be sold to the highest offer above that. If you are interested in purchasing this domain name, please contact me with your offer ASAP. I would like to finalize the sale within the next two weeks (by December 7th). Sincerely, Pan Walker (phone number deleted for privacy reasons) panwalker -at- gmail.com |

Pan you did a hell of a Job with it for awhile there. I didn't even know it was having problems until you announced the closing. I know for a fact you put a lot into Knoxshow.com as I witnessed it being updated, changed, the forum redone several times.
While it a real bummer this didn't work out for Pan, $1,000 is nothing for an already popular domain name. Some of you entrepreneurs jump on this and make it happen. Good luck Pan. Hope this means we'll see more of ya around here.
