First I've heard of this. I suspect this is more about the Focus continuing their crusade in support of the JWP extension than it is about a serious run for office.

I have quickly learned that depth perception takes a fraction of a second to kick in when looking in a rear view mirror. By that time, all you can do is wait for the impact. I wish there were a defense for this kind of crash. Banning handheld use of cell phones while driving? I don't know if that's likely but I'm all for it.

My apologies. I did not mean to suggest that defense driving could prevent what befell you. Rather, I meant that I have encountered so much distracted driving - people shooting through red lights and so on -that I am terrified on the road now.

The fear of such an incident is one of the primary reasons I stopped riding motorcycles.

Oh, no apologies needed. I really do wish there were a way to avoid this kind of crash, especially now that I've experienced it on different ends of the spectrum...one that was really horrible with lots of damage, and another that just pissed me off and makes me even more nervous on the roads.

Ringo, agreed. Such an accident would be life-threatening on a motorcycle, moreso than in a car. I would not have survived the first rear-end collision in August if it weren't for the safety features in my car. I was sitting still and she was doing at least 50mph.
