Default post a random sign of spring

    FIRST WILDFLOWER!

Yes! You all are chumps. Even if you've SEEN a wildflower, I claimed it first, and no one will believe you.

Plus, you probably saw a crocus or a Lenten rose or one of those exotic freaks timed to some climate half a world away, or some lawn crap like heal-all. Fuck that, I saw a native wildflower, bitches. Back when it was STILL JANUARY. I am so the king of seeing the first wildflower.

    It was a cut-leaved toothwort.

I will entertain claims of hepatica or bloodroot, but I don't want to hear any daffodil bullshit. What am I saying? To HELL with your hepatica. I am king!

Wow... and it's not even spring... yet. That's amazing.

    What color was it?

There was a dandelion in my parking lot last Monday. Boo-ya.

On an unrelated note, breakfast at the Bistro on Saturday mornings is downtown Knoxville's best-kept secret.

    Bacon?

I'm going to stroll the garden and see if anything is attempting to grow...will report back.

This is as close to spring as it gets. I'm even more jealous of you now.

Jonquils! We were pointing them out on the way to dinner last night. Poor things don't understand that there will be cold snaps. They just pop up at the first sign of warm weather.

I myself picture all this so clearly, but you are not I, and therein lies the irreparable calamity.

Red maple flowers are the Official First Sign of Spring. Everything before that are just late-winter flowers.

Aren't elms usually flowering before maples? Either way, they are both in flower in Rockford. Actually, it's just the earliest few maples that have bloomed. Plenty of toothworts and spring beauties too. I guess they are late winter flowers.

my three zones of aspiration include upper body layering, accessories, and the key interface of sock, shoe and trouser.
