Default It starts with the brewpub.....

Mainly posted for funny terms like "kale and karaoke cognoscenti" and "locally-sourced, Czechoslovakian-style hops." And poor Chattanooga. I think he overlooked Knoxville because we still have a soul, unlike Asheville, where "people used to live their lives, [and now] the restless come and go" (quoting an old song).

He funny. I will have to check this out. But I wonder if it's just more shooting rats at the dump? Not much sport in it.

I flipped through ^ this book a McKays once I think.

He's actually got some good points. He is (I think) sincerely sympathetic with the agrarian impulse underlying the idea of southern secession made real by the civil war. At its core it really (maybe) is an inarticulable defense of the truly local.

Though it's a lot easier to do that with our anachronistic super powers nowadays.

There's a whole strain of "post modern" conservatives (Russell Kirk types) that actually make really good arguments about home, locality and against "microbrews".

Id back Vermont before Texas any day though.

Keep an eye on Detroit. There's a whole mess of libertarian whack a doos trying to libify it.

The obvious choice to fix Detroit is Mitt Romney, and he seems to have some time on his hands.

I'm thinking of this as a book club selection. Hoping for just the mixture of valid points and nasty snark to ensure a heated discussion. They've had how many book club meetings At Union Ave Books and no on has thrown anything through those big windows yet?

Be sure and make mention of this selection in the KNS comment section!

kinda funny and insightful, but so unrelentingly negative. So what, if anything, does he consider positive? Not clear whether he even believes in positive concepts of cool, but if he does i doubt there are many places that he finds as cool as he believes himself to be.

also, journalists: beware of using the word "anointed" like this, lest ye invoke Thomas Sowell
