Default Pitchers and Catchers Report - Baseball 2013

MLB Pitchers & Catchers report on Feb 11th, position players show up starting the 14th, and pre-season games start ~22nd.

In keeping with longstanding tradition, the Reds start the season at home on April 1. In keeping with Bud Selig's disregard for all that is holy, they host the *$)*& Angels.

College baseball has (in theory) already started, but UT can't be bothered to put up scores or any news AFAICT:

And those damn socialist Blue Jays are the odds on faves to win it all.
I am just glad that it looks like the days of A-Rod are coming to an end in the Boogie Down.

Anybody ever been to a Washington Nationals game in DC? That's on my list this year.

I have a friend whose an editor with NPR.org, who goes regularly. He's also a harp player with a couple of bands in the DC area, I should probably get you two together, you would have a lot to talk about while you were watching baseball.

What's your take on moving Chapman to the rotation?

In a way I hate to see him brought down to mere mortal status. He's not going to be nearly as scary with a high pitch count and a two-digit radar reading. I'm also worried that slowing him down and giving more batters more time to look at him could eat into his advantage in a way that makes him less valuable in the closing role if they have to send him back to the bullpen. I wasn't expecting the decision this early and I'm wondering what he did over the winter to expand his repertoire to convince Dusty that he was ready.

Edit: Another issue is that he's been getting slower year by year and I don't know how much of that is physical and how much is a trade-off for control, but Dusty knows and that might factor into the long view.

1912 World Series (probably the Polo Grounds). Who's ready to put on a suit, a bowler hat, and some loose-fitting underwear and go to a game?
