yeah, sure. why not? i was never really into hardcore during its heyday, and i only gained an appreciation for it (and black flag) posthumously, so i guess maybe i don't have whatever purism/emotional baggage you're projecting.
also, i actually slightly prefer latter day bf guitar work.
