Unemployment Looming
I guess I will bring this here. I don't do so to invoke pity, or sympathy. Just to inform.
I will be out of a job one week from today.
I have had one interview. I also have knowledge of another UT position that I would dearly like to have. So things are not entirely bleak.
But, if anyone is in need of a worker - I have work experience in graphic design, web design, social media (ack!) - but am willing to do just about anything for a decent paycheck. I would appreciate a heads up.

There's some pretty sophisticated temp agencies out there. I have signed up with two so far. One is a general temp service, warehouse work etc and one is a "skilled trades" temp agency.
Skilled temp called me yesterday about a bobcat/skid steer/backhoe gig that will 18$ an hour and last for several
Months. I interview next week.
The warehouse temp gig is paying 12$ which is not bad.
I know there are temp services that specialize in clerical, technical, engineering, architectural etc.
Of course I am in Nashville so there are a lot more options but it's worth taking a peek. The applications are usually generic 2 pages or so and of course a resume helps a lot.
And if they ask you if you know how to drive a skid steer, fer Christ sakes, just say yeah!
You'll be able to catch up with the x-con set and you might get paid daily!

Rocky, best to you. I get the feeling some things are opening up. And you have skills that many people want these days. Although I keep applying for full-time positions I think I have several things working against me not the least of which is I write this loud-mouthed liberal-leaning column for the local rag. I don't think employers know what to think of that. And the freelance seems a bit freer. Maybe.

That was my favorite job, ever. I've only had 6 jobs; 3 or them were farm hand and the last was on a horse farm. I miss those days. WUOT classical was on by the time we were sweeping the aisle. Fell in love with the farmer's daughter. It was good for a while but I wasn't ready to marry when she was so we fell out and I hit the road doing this. Still running, but with a little limp. Someday I might get back to cleaning stalls.

What maybe my favorite job was as a pipe layer during the summers of my early college years. It was hard, dirty, hot work. But I always felt I accomplished something at the end of the day. It may have only been a few lengths of pipe, or it could have been a quarter mile worth in soft, loamy earth. Come quitting time you could always look back and see exactly what you had worked, sweat, and bled for.
I am probably too old for something like that today.
