And it always feels so good when you're done.

    christmas ramble 2012

    enveloped in thick fog,
the grayest, dreariest most gothic of glorious days,
    winding through the mountains
going west beyond all those towers,
first the twins of metal while smokestack lightning plays,
then the medieval spires while carol of the bells plays on mandolin.

“there they are, didn’t see the castle towers on the way in”
“a reluctant passer was disturbing traffic at the time, so you were occupied. plus, they aren’t as easy to spot from the east headed west.”

…but that was the next day
after looking into the golden glass fire
    eastward on the way home
when it was snowing, sleeting, icy wet,
swirling with the sharp, harsh winds
across the wide expanse of the roads
the woods on either side pale with drifts of white
till we drove ahead of the storm and into soft dry sunshine.
    we spoke of many things
because everything had finally made that staggering last leap we wanted
such change that has cumulated from all those other points both large and small
becomes a moment when reality shifts into jubilation.
