UPDATED: 5 People Shot At 3 Different Gun Shows On Gun Appreciation Day
By Adam Peck on Jan 19, 2013 at 4:16 pm
If the gun advocates behind this year’s inaugural Gun Appreciation Day had hoped to use the day’s festivities to build support for their anti-regulation platform, they are going to have to wait another year.
Emergency personnel had to be called to the scene of the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, North Carolina after a gun accidentally discharged and shot two people at the show’s safety check-in booth just after 1 pm. Both victims were transported to an area hospital, and the Raleigh Fire Department announced that the show would be closed for the rest of the day.

VW has concerns about this bill, which would allow gun owners to carry guns in their glove compartments/whatever while they work. Fair enough, if someone feels like they need to carry a gun in the first place, where else are they gonna keep it I suppose. Can't keep it in a locker at work.
Someone in the comments (why do I step into the stupid? why) said we don't need paychecks to keep us safe from the government, we need guns. Does it not occur to people that the government has available to it, an astounding array of military weaponry and intel at its disposal. And some tooth suckin' redneck with a guns and ammo subscription is going to keep the government at bay with his Bushmaster? Really? A .50 cal has a flat trajectory for a friggin' mile. He's holed up in his Hank Williams (Jr, of course) style compound watching Larry the Cable Guy and all of a sudden a muzzle flash in the distance and 2 seconds later his head pops like a grape.
Why the failure of imagination?

A good question to ask the Houston brothers -- the most anti-government gun-rights people I've ever known (growing up in Roane County, I knew the Houston family long before Rocky and Leon blasted their way to notoriety) -- who surrendered to the feds on gun charges without a fight.
