Fellini Kroger South

I now live a tad closer to a Food City than to Felini Kroger, which really is a pretty good store, for a grocery store, I prefer it for my general shopping needs. However, I have been going to the FC on North Broadway for quick in and outs. There are several pros and cons for either, but the big tip in favor for Kroger for me are how bad FC designs their check out lanes. They are reaaally dumb, especially for a typical handbasket user like myself. Having to put my stuff down on that itty bitty counter, hand my bonus card and ID - if beer is involved - and then walk around the impulse buy rack, and then squeeze past the back of the register operator on the adjacent station just to get to the paying spot just makes me wonder who designed this. I know it is so the cart can roll right up to the register, but I feel like that was a failed experiment. They have redone the FC at least a couple of times including abandoning one spot and into a whole new building since I have been around, but they never see the need to fix those damn lines.

Oh, and the FC in Fountain City is much better, but driving past the 640 junction is another pet peeve of mine.

Totally agree with you on the stupid new layout for check-out. Trader Joes has this annoying configuration, as well. But at least you can rest easy knowing that the conveyor belt hasn't been mopped with dirty restroom rinse water.*

According to this story in the KNS, Whole Foods is filling the hole on Papermill.

As for filling Raincrow's couch hole. I got nuthin'

But then this was followed up by a December 12 KNS article that curiously reported:

In other news, the Scope this week made some inquiries about Whole Foods, the Austin, Tex.-based organic grocery chain that last year announced plans for a store near Papermill Road. Knoxville is not listed on Whole Foods' "Stores in Development" site, and a company spokeswoman couldn't be reached on Monday.

I actually like the FC layout. Much better than Kroger where you have to push your cart in and then reach over to unload it on the conveyor. To each his own I guess.
