Lest we stray too far from the point at hand, let me say that my dealings with the regular, downtown beat cops has been fine. I mean, the best act more like Police than Law Enforcement Officers, which I think is a good thing. I think society could use more Policing and little less Law Enforcement.
In the instance of special events, I'm guessing they pretty much get marching orders. I wonder what they were for last Friday night.
