You think she was hot in the first one, see the second Tarzan and his Mate. Wowzer.

I grew up watching Tarzan movies—the WBIR Early Show would have Tarzan Week a couple of times a year. (The Early Show is yet another reason I'm the nerd I am today, but I digress.) And then I have a very clear memory of the week during the early '70s when WBIR announced that it would not be broadcasting Tarzan Week, as previously announced, because of the early films' rampant bigotry and gross stereotypes, and then it handed over those hours of air time to a bunch of black men in dashikis, who spent the week discussing racism, a la a public-affairs show. My tiny mind was totally blown, not only by the idea that my beloved Tarzan movies were bad somehow but also, in hindsight, by seeing that many black men on TV at the same time in East Tennessee in 1970-whatever.

Valhalla Rising. Yeah, it sounds like a death metal band, but it's a movie. Because once in a while you need some Mads Mikkelsen Norse action thriller bad assery set in the 11th century Scottish highlands to tamp down your pointy head. Anybody who gets impressed by those stupid Liam Neeson movies hasn't seen Mads eviscerate a slave trader.

Saw Lincoln last night. There were a few things to grumble about, but on the whole it was excellent. Certainly was engrossing - 2 1/2 hours went by and I could have stayed longer.

Particularly enjoyed watching James Spader chew the scenery in a role he was born to play.

We saw Life of Pi over the weekend. Having never seen the book, I knew little about the story. It was a tear-jerker. If you are pre-disposed to liking cats, then it was a major tear-jerker. While the story on the lifeboat was very good and interesting, I found myself more interested in the story behind the main character's childhood. Being a Hindu/Catholic/Muslim was worth a story in and of itself.

I should add that the visuals were outstanding. Also the boy was very good in the part. It wouldn't surprise me to see him on best actor lists.

We saw Skyfall over the weekend. It was pretty good. I like that they have moved away from so many gimmicks, Bond seemed rather world worn and old but that was within the story line. Good villian but I didn't get the menacing stance most bond villians exude, mainly just crazy. It was cool to go with my brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins. Had fun.
