    Default No Libya/Egypt thread?

Maybe the blab really is dead.

I'm horrified by the events, and disgusted (altho sadly not surprised) by Romney's response to them.

He must be channeling Sarah Palin.

I also believe the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt, instead of condemning their actions. It's never too early for the United States government to condemn attacks on Americans and to defend our values.

Do any of you think the President acutally issued a statement "sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy?" Anyone? Ringo?

What happened was that the embassy in Cairo issued a statement condemning that repulsive anti-Muslim internet video BEFORE the attack.

When this was pointed out to Romney, he doubled down.

He also scheduled a press conference this a.m. half an hour before the President's. I just call that tacky.

Interestingly enough, John McCain used my exact word for Romney's behavior - disgusting. And very few Republicans are singing Romney's tune - Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich excepted. Now THERE's a great choir.

Has anyone asked Romney if he knows that Libya and Egypt are two different countries? Can he locate them on a map?

He saw a political opportunity, fuck the fact that US citizens were killed by a terrorist attack.

The embassy in Egypt was also hit, but on a much smaller scale. A group of protesters scaled the wall and burned the flag. They didn't hurt anybody. It seemed like a protest that got out of hand (although it was rightly condemned by the President).

The attack in Libya was organized and orchestrated, with RPGs etc. Administration is looking into possible al Qaeda ties.

    Of course.

What I was getting at was that Romney clearly didn't have any understanding of what was occurring in both Egypt and Libya. He took it as equivalent, which it clearly was not.

Oh, he understood. He just didn't care. It was an opportunity to attack Obama, so he took it. As usual, he didn't give a damn what the facts were. Nor does he understand international diplomacy. Not to mention he's just, well, as I said before, tacky.

    If that's the case, wow.

I wonder if drugstores are running low on Maalox in DC. Long-time GOPers must have a bad case of acid reflux right about now.

Chris Stevens. Yeah, that's the guy you want to kill to protest... whatever.

OTOH, the administration response will be drone attacks, which will kill more civilians, which will spawn more terrorists, we will always be at war with WestAsia.
