I was just thinking about that. Dude stands up, draws his concealed-carry whatever (which tend to be short-barreled doohickeys for close-up use), tries to hit a moving target a hundred feet away, hits a bystander, someone else says OMG there's a second gunman, shoots at him, rinse, repeat.

Actually, if you want a public policy response to this issue, then mental health is probably the place you should be looking. Mental health care is, in just about every way, an afterthought that we don't think about at all, if we can help it. I lack the qualifications to diagnose, but I will venture a layperson's reading anyway. Anyone who walks into a peaceful crowd and starts killing people is suffering from some sort of mental illness. While there is no way to anticipate and prevent every such action, were mental health care a routinely available and routinely accessed thing, perhaps this sort of 'random' violence would be less common.

I'm wondering if he has been on antidepressants? I've heard of young people having obsessive thoughts of violence and sometimes even suicide while taking them.

Old people do, too. It's not an age issue.
