    Default Gas explosion

Weird. I haven't read that any conclusions were reached about the cause of the December 2009 (?) gas explosion in West Knox. But, KUB seems to be on top of the explosion in Powell.

Officials shut off the gas and power to the Truman's home. They've asked them to leave until state investigators inspect the house.
The Trumans were at their home for a short time Sunday to collect clothes and personal belongings.
KUB crews were out to inspect gas lines again Sunday and did not find a leak.
Truman said, "I know it was just a loud explosion. Everybody felt it and heard it and it happened fast."

It seems strange that there have been two houses blow up within the past 8 months due to gas leaks. What do you think?

I haven't either. I do recall that the West Knox homeowners had called for service weeks before the blast because of odors. I hope this man gets the chance to tell us his side of the story.

I just have this [Stephen King type] scenario in the back of my mind where a heat and air tech is installing gas units incorrectly and he may move from company to company...

I hope the forensic people are looking at (1) the companies doing the installs for the homes and (2) the technician doing the installs

“The Dec. 9 West Knoxville home explosion blew Stephen and Sue Krzeski into their yard and killed their young son, Nicholas, who still was inside. Separate investigations by the KUB and the Knox County Sheriff's Office determined natural gas had accumulated in the house and exploded, although neither organization could pinpoint what ignited the gas. A damaged service T-fitting was found, and KUB decided to replace about 1,500 fittings of that model as a safety precaution. KUB spokeswoman Grace McNeilly said all fittings will be replaced by July 2011. T-fittings are where a residential or business gas line connects with a utility's main line.”

Weak codes and poor code enforcement/inspection.

I recall that too, I think it was a fireplace. Seems like that would be easy to confirm, I mean to at least confirm that repairs were made.

I don't see how the T-fittings would have anything to do with it, that piece is out at the street. Good that they are replacing them though.

I just figure there was a lot of behind-the-scenes CYA going on about that "unidentified company" who had repaired the gas fireplace that same week.
