Default wave your hands liz phair, jump sharks like you just don't care

ok so there's a new liz phair song up on her website, and it's on the one hand sort of amazingly terrible but also pretty funny. everything about it is objectively embarrassing -- the bhangra beat (hello 2001), the (um) rapping, the complaining about her record label (people are still on record labels?), the sort of general sense that she heard an m.i.a. album and thought "oh, that's what the kids like these days."

but that all just makes it kind of adorable. and she's smart enough to make it seem like more of a don't-give-a-fuck move than anything else. the first time through i was sort of horrified, by the second time i was sort of sold.

Thanks for reminding me to download it. It's discount priced, as well!

I'm currently vacillating between horrified and sold. Will report back tomorrow. I think I do, in fact, like the sheer don't give a fuckness of it.

I'm going with sold. I bought it as an updated version of the Moneygoround. Only instead of the writer getting screwed and everyone taking a cut, Liz's song is about the great anticlimax of publishing - there's no there there. BTW, how awesome are the kinks?

OK, dammit. If nobody else is using this as an excuse to post a pic of Liz, then I guess it falls to me:

Goodness. It could be a young Hillary Clinton. Sometimes, you just don't know how things are going to turn out...

I'm vaguely familiar with the name Liz Phair. I just went to the site to check out the song based on this thread. I listened to it for about 30 seconds.

You owe me 30 seconds, Mayshark. I want it back.

Here's that and a bonus 3:15 to get you back ahead of the game!

was it the "amazingly terrible" or "objectively embarrassing" bit that got you to click? i want to know what works.

I really loved Exile in Guyville and Whip Smart, but I believe she jumped the shark a long time ago.... I am just curious enough to give the full album a download. "Bollywood" is just plain "wtf".

Some of my old faves.... great classic Liz in there. Back when she had some rawness.

She's filled with secrets. Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song, and there's always music in the air.
