Horace Pittman, aka Ali Akbar, has passed. Local artist, snappy dresser, fun guy.

One of the coolest Knoxvillains ever.
Always fun.
Git yo thrill, motherfucker.
arf arfarf.
Oh wow. What an amazing guy I always loved to see him out.
I hope this thread turns into a thousand remembrances of him.
"We're everywhere. . . . The fight starts tomorrow."
I just got reminded of when he sang with Beyond John.
"I got on the bus & went downtown..."

I remember the first time I met Ali. I was new in town, sitting with a group of friends on McLeod's patio on Market. Ali joined us and got into a discussion with one of the guys who had a bag of habanero peppers. Well... nothing would do that they each take a bite of one ! heh heh.... Ali had a bottle of Crown with him and quickly uncapped it to try and cool off his mouth. He passed the bottle to one of my friends who took a swig and who, because there was habanero oil on the lip of the bottle, ended up with a blister on her lip !
Ali was an interesting cat, but he was always a gentleman to me. I remember him and smile. Rest in peace Ali.... hope it's good up there !
Seek. Find.
Toasting Ali at the brewpub, where I personally witnessed his ejection from the premises for his steadfast conviction that NO, he did NOT in fact need to put his shirt back on. "I'm dancin', man, what the fuck?"
Horace was art. I've got some really great memories of him. He came up with the phrase "get your thrills at Vic and Bills." He was a one of a kind person. He will be missed.
wow. DNA relation #1 had just talked to Ali two or three weeks, saw him at EarthFare i think.
in the eighties i recall Horace and his murals. Twenty years later, I remember his dancing. Always the exuberant dancing. I loved being on the same dance floor with him. Last time i saw him grooving was at the Suns of Sphere Show at Barley's.
No more Ali on the dance floor.
RIP, Horace
