i hate to be predictable, but cannibal corpse's centuries of torment has a two-hour authorized documentary about the band's career that you'd have to have a heart of stone not to appreciate.
at least he's not writing about metal this week

    This Is Spinal Tap

Where odd audio errata, ephemeralities, and nonsense occasionally collide with actual music for serious contemplation. Trouble is - I'm not saying what is which.

Tastes vary, of course, but some of my favorites include:

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart (Wilco documentary)
    The Last Waltz
This Is Spinal Tap (and Mighty Wind, for that matter)
    The Beatles Anthology
    No Direction Home

It's good, but I don't feel like it is "must-own" anymore, especially with No Direction Home out.

No Direction Home tells the broader story well, but Don't Look Back is a perfect gimlet look at a crucial moment in said story. Nothing beats it for me.

Good point. I guess I don't really like the character/caricature Dylan was at that point, and his attitude toward the people around him made for some uncomfortable moments in the film. But it is a great film.
