    Default Job Loss Extravaganza

So what's the latest tally, just for us here in East Tennessee?

Goody's today confirmed that they're going out of business. I'm not sure how many folks are left at corporate and distribution in West Knox, + remaining stores. Alcoa is cutting 13,000 worldwide, which includes 450 in Blount Co., and Sea Ray is closing a plant, and that's 300?

What else happened recently? Jewelry Television and what else?

It's a bloodbath out there. When are we going to start a Blab farm/co-op?

New York ain't doing so well either.
Physical slavery requires people to be housed and fed, economic slavery requires the people to feed and house themselves.

yeah. i'm noticing more vacant storefronts. one thing that happened was landlords kept jacking rents like crazy all through the boom, and drove out paying tenants in expectation of luring higher-paying tenants, but now a lot of them are just empty.

Barna Log Homes closed for business, laying off about 80 employees.

Four East Tennessee companies have laid off or plan to lay off a total of 179 workers, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development said Monday.

my girlfriend and another twenty-some of her co-workers were laid off yesterday from imagepoint on gay st.

and today the restaurant my housemate delivers for closed its doors, still owing many of its employees back pay.

i've been hunting for a little over a month now (with obligatory time off around the holidays). it's straight grizzly out here.

Some developer dude built massive new retail space at the corner of Forest Park & Old Kingston Pike (Where Ivory's used to be) and can't rent them to anyone because he's asking waaaaay too much. I heard he seriously lost his ass. My mother hates it (she thought it was cute the way it was) and makes a comment every time we pass it.
    Farewell, but you will be
with me, you will go within
a drop of blood circulating in my veins
or outside, a kiss that burns my face
or a belt of fire at my waist.

Jesu the Blab is depressing today. But I'm seriously sorry for all the folks who are struggling right now. This bleak weather can't help spirits much. I'm bummed out for the folks at KV - those kids really gave it their heart.

Dumplin Creek development is not far from my house. Construction for it seems to be dormant for the most part. It's supposed to be half the size of Turkey Creek.

Also, my uncle's home building operation hasn't been doing jack lately. He's had to lay off his employees (which, are only 3 or 4, but still).

I don't mean to pile it on, but damn...

    OTOH, ice cream?

And I resigned at FedEx Ground, but they were planning to fire me anyways. They are cutting all management's pay by 25% and looking for ways to trim the staff. The corporation still expects managers to work 14 hour days. So I got out while the gettin' was good!

Maybe it is time to start a Blabber Commune/Co-Op!
