Congrats to Croatia. Germany played like the overrated team that they are. The ref went red/yellow card crazy at the end didn't he?

The Schweinsteiger card was inappropriate, though he is a complete fucking jerk in Bundesliga play as well.

Good matches these last two days. Being a ref is hard. The Assistant called that red card and from his angle it looked like Schweinsteiger turned and went for the head.... That yellow on Modrić was bad too. That could have been Croatia's deserved third goal.

This Austria-Poland match is really open so far-30th minute. (I'm a bit behind real time). In fact Poland just scored @ 29:25 as I'm finishing this.

What did you think about the foul called on Poland that resulted in a penalty kick/tie? Both teams played their hearts out but I hate seeing it end in a penalty kick in overtime. I'm not sure I would have called that as a foul...it wasn't "that" much pushing/pulling.

It looks like Vastic will get a lifetime supply of beer!

I haven't seen that match yet, so can't comment. But late penalties are always problematic. Players know that some refs hate to call them, they push the envelope, until eventually the whistle has to blow. Some refs try to stay objective and call them in the 92nd minute the same as the 2nd minute. These inclinations are kinda like strike zones in baseball.

btw, how soft are we European cup watchers? just noticed a commercial at half of the Poland Austria match for power steering on an ATV!!?? The tag line was something like, you can't imagine what you can get done when your atv doesn't wear you out? Sorry, but I think some media buyer just stole some money from Honda and split it with ESPN....

Sorry about the giving away the "ending" before you finished! Let me know what you think when you see it. I didn't think it was that big of a foul.

Thats one thing I love about football...no commercials for 45 minutes at a time! Do you ever watch any Premier League games? If so, who is your club?

That was certainly a game changing call, but I always try and find a reason to defend refs(I was one for years). He may have, when he walked in to the box during the previous delay-ten seconds previously-when he had to halt play, ... he may have said, "look you bunch of mugs, this time I want you to keep your hands off of each other. I want a fair free kick, period". He did speak to Lewandowski(#1, the Polish player who put both arms around Prodl (#15) of Austria AFTER the warning.... There is so so much that goes on that the tv announcers are not privy to. This changes a lot from ref to ref, but there is a lot of communication through out the game. In a larger sense, some ref in some game needed to shift the pushing/pulling back toward the fair end of the continuum, and maybe Poland was put up as an example. It may make the pushing and shoving less of an issue as the tournament progresses. My 2 cents.

Editing to say that the espn announcer just said the same thing. I hadn't heard that when I typed the above. But he reiterated that the warning was made, and the foul still occurred, which I think is legit and a good thing for the tournament as a whole.

Go Orange! I probably won't finish watching today's matches until early tomorrow morning, so I'll be avoiding this thread.

Todays matches were fracking great! The Netherlands-France match was one of the better ones I've seen thus far. Poor old Italy cant catch a break.
