    Default Playing what if

So, suppose we were in the last year of Al Gore's second presidential term. Would that make it more or less likely that Obama would be this year's nominee? Clinton? VP Lieberman (shudder)? Someone else?

One big difference is that there'd be no Iraq war vote.

    Discuss.

Liebermann would have done a lot less damage as VP. To answer your main question: You can't really answer that question. I think Obama would have been on the national scene no matter what. C'mon, he's part of the Trilateral Commission's plot to seat the AntiChrist in power.

    C'mon - they've already done that. Let's move on.

Besides, although my grasp of Revelations is a bit rusty, isn't the Messiah supposed to come after the reign of the Antichrist?

Where odd audio errata, ephemeralities, and nonsense occasionally collide with actual music for serious contemplation. Trouble is - I'm not saying what is which.

Had 9/11 happened on Gore's watch, Gore would have been impeached for job dereliction in 2002 by Tom Delay's House of Representatives and convicted in Bill Frist's Senate.

President Lieberman would then turn officially Republican, and then the Middle East fun begins in earnest.

I've been reading a lot of Hannah Arendt lately. Depressing, I know. Anyhow, she was an early target of American Zionists for her book on the trial of Adolf Eichmann, because he humanized Eichmann and declared the trial a show trial with no possible outcome that resembled liberal justice.* (The term "self-loathing Jew" was coined for her.) Anyhow, she intimated in the 60s that there was no worse outcome for Israel as a nation-state than symbiotic relationship with the US articulated and controlled by American Zionists who were committed to Israel in as much as they never had to live in Israel.

*She certainly thought that Eichmann should have been hanged....

Mama told me that the antichrist will be a man of great wealth, so I guess it ain't Obama unless he is hiding something (like a sheikdom).

    Is it a symbiosis?

Anyway, my point being: Militaristic interests in this here country wouldn't just go quiet, esp. in the face of an event like 9/11. (We can argue whether or not Gore would have taken the threat more seriously, but the fact remains that there were deep-cover AQ operatives taking flight lessons before the 2001 inaugurauction.)

Those PNAC assholes (yeah, see Arendt again) were prosecuting for overt warfare in 1998 - bugging Clinton to do the deed. In the face of an event like 9/11? Those cries would only have gotten more shrill.

Gore is/was a competent technocrat, but his presidency never would have survived a mini-cataclysm like the one that befell us in 2001.

And (Rikki, are you listening?) the Democratic Party is co-opted by the same forces that made the Iraq debacle possible. There are elements who are not so much enablers as (Rikki?) co-conspirators.
