The Girl Scouts have kicked off their Reading Rocks 2007 campaign... There are very few gifts better than a good book.

My suggestion is to support your local indie bookseller, Carpe Librum, and encourage reading by picking up a copy of a book that may have impacted your life, then drop it in the collection bin at the store. There are Girl Scouts of all ages, too, so keep that in mind.

I gave out scary kid's books one Halloween. I had them divided into age appropriate piles and let the kids choose from their pile. Turns out I had to give chocolate along with in order to get the kids on board, but they ended up really liking the deal.
I remember one kid who was skeptical at first, got into it and demanded to be given "the best kid's book you got".
