Hey Lee!, what about you?

It's brand new; haven't heard it yet, although I think eMusic just got it.

My five:

- Bjork Volta (last week I wrote I really liked about half of this, and I do, but the rest is sounding more and more like retreads and finger exercises and musical-boutique-shopping-as-songwriting with every listen)
- James Blood Ulmer Black Rock (bless you, Carl)
- Sarolta Zalatnay s/t (Janis Joplin’s lost Eastern European little sister, with much better grooves)
- the Field From Here We Go Sublime (purty techno; apt title)
- Andrew Hill Judgment (w/Bobby Hutcherson)

Bonus: 'Tingler mix madness

Came out yesterday. I guess it's his ode to post-Katrina New Orleans. More funked up blues produced by Vernon Reid. Some originals combined with some Hooker, Son House, Willie Dixon, et al

Nice to see that. I can concur on the holy quartet of Are You Glad to Be in America?, Freelancing, Black Rock, and Odyssey, and on the lesser grades of the lesser stuff, at least among those I've heard. Seems like there might be a coupla others not on there (like maybe that piece o' shit that Laswell produced for him for Blue Note, I think), but I couldn't tell you the titles, so maybe not.

I really like it. Glad to finally get an album version of "Dress Blues". Personally, I know a lot of folks who are attempting to take sides on the whole Drive-By situation, but I have love for them all. I still love and support the Truckers and everyone who is or has been involved. I think that the split was a good move on everyone's behalf.

On a side note, kudos for the Dr. Dog. Love it.

Not that this in any way furthers the discussion, but I feel compelled to pipe up & say that that is one of my favorite records, period, and has been ever since the mid 80s when a Belgian promoter introduced me to (his pronunciation) "Shem Blue D'Eaulmaire."

Not that this in any way furthers the discussion ...

1. Furthering discussion is not the announced rule of the Blab and
2. I'll be the judge of that
3. i'm still dialing up that violin genius turned pop garage symphony called Armchair Apocrypha by Andrew Bird
4. Los Lobos Town and City, 'cause they understand me in a language I can't speak, and
5. Spinetingler's BM07a and b (i'm working on my personal track listing) "The bad guy is winning and it seems like you don't love me"? WTF ? Plus the number of songs that have TOTO influenced sounds/production is astounding. I know you realize this?

Apeville introduced me to it, in a regular ol' Knoxville sorta accent. I agree on the fave records, period, thing.

You should hear him now, on the WUOT Tues & Thurs for the jazz show, sounds like he's from some big city.

Hadn't noticed. A lot of them come from that era, though, so it may just be the sound of 24 track recorders, SSL boards, and LA-2As.
