you guys seen this? from the man who founded wikipedia:
Blog and wiki authors are now inventing a new era of media, and it is my belief that this new media is going to invent a new era of politics. If broadcast media brought us broadcast politics, then participatory media will bring us participatory politics.
i'm sure it'll be, well, something. campaigns wikia (http://campaigns.wikia.com/wiki/Campaigns_Wikia). ready with mission statement (http://campaigns.wikia.com/wiki/Mission_Statement).

First, sign up for the mailing list. Let's start a conversation, let's start teaching each other how to reach out and get the attention of the campaigns. Or drop me a personal email at jwales at wikia.com to talk more.
Second, sign up here on the wiki, and let's start building the knowledgebase to make this happen.
Third... blog about it, email about it, talk about it, contact your local politicians and help them to get involved. Make a big noise that there is a broad non-partisan effort to making politics smarter, in engaging people at a personal level. Politicians will respond, but they need to hear us demand it, in a big way.
For now, just sign up on the mailing list and give a shout out about what you are interested in. We will get this ball rolling.
To end it we do 1 and 2 and forget three whoo hoo... yeah america...

Shout outs and mailing lists are ALL AMERICAN. IT'S AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION!
Sorry, but i have no time for someones fucking little idea. Thousands of people have had good ideas in the past that would have brought about a better democracy than the one we have now. Glum am I? You bet your ass I am. Somehow I remember the 5th amendment from 4th grade and how my privacy was supposed to be protected. They showed a video about it so it must be true.
Power to us if it works out. Somehow I don't think it will.

well, well, mr. 'tick, us never gets ahead if us don't participate.

I'm not "not" participating, I am just saying that the same people who shun wikipedia are going to find the same bias here and therefore not change their vote. So to say that this is revolutionizing (or paving a path for better) democracy is idealistic at best. The problem with television as a median isn't that it doesn't get to the people but that people really haven't had control of instant content since the first use of the telegram (read Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death").

ok, after a few beers...i was only giving you shit about participation.
i have read postman's book. matter of fact, i'm pretty sure it was your copy i borrowed. (but you just reiterated wikia's point. a lot of the television coverage isn't about what's actually going on with the issues, but about the fluctuations and indications of leads. it's like listening to a fucking horse race. it does suck.)
i'd say it's actually more hubris than idealism.
(yer preachin' to the choir, lad.)

Like television (telegraph, radio) the rules came down. Thus to will it for the Internet if not for a massive upheaval by the people. We are beyond trite ideas to win back democracy. We are now just allowed to wait for their next move. Are you waiting? I'm ready to go fight the fuckers one beer too many and all.
Just for the other readers: I am crazy, I mean, I am not crazy, I mean, i have been drinking, I mean, I'm straight. We cool?
