Hey, for those of you who host radio shows, answer me this:

If a high-profile individual is being interviewed on your nationally-syndicated program, don't you have engineers who can tweak the mic volume or the eq or something if the individual happens to be soft-spoken? I've only made two radio appearances--one for half an hour and the other for two hours--although I'm not what anyone would describe as soft-spoken. The tone of my voice is also fairly even. I don't get louder and quieter the way some annoying radio hosts do. (Not anyone locally, though.) It just seems like you shouldn't expect the guest to self-modulate, even if he has headphones, which he probably does. (I did both times.)

Just wondering. . .

Well, if the interview was pre-recorded, and the producer of the segement is doing his/her job, they should be able to tweak the volume levels before committing the audio to final production.

But if it is live, there is rarely a tech or producer unless it is a well-paid host who usually does have a producer watching/listening to things such as volume level. That leaves the jock/host to watch and control the volume levels. Far too many are far too lazy to really stay on top of things like that, unfortunately. But it sure does mean a lot to have consistent VU levels, although it is almost a lost art anymore.

I hope that helps, but not sure if it does.
