Gypsy put some Knoxville-specific lyrics up here the other day in the "style of Tom Waits." Inspired by his inspiration, I put it to music. If you'd like a like an mp3 or m4a copy of the song, e-mail me at rmonyb@gmail.com. Or you can visit the Quartjar page at My Space (http://www.myspace.com/quartjar).

Here's Gypsy's lyrics to "Never Seen the Sunsphere Rise":

way down in the old city
outside the pilot light
the skinny boys and pale girls
are spoiling for a fight
the flower man is comin'
but he won't sell much tonight
and i'm just waitin' for a sign

the sweethearts on magnolia
will take you for a spin
a 20-minute date
for a half a pint of gin
somebody called the mayor
but the mayor wasn't in
and i'm just holdin' the line

chorus:
down by the river with a vestal girl
you never known nothin' til she gives you a whirl
benny's got some hooch'll make your straight hairs curl
and i never seen the sunsphere rise
no, i never seen the sunsphere rise

A scientist from the Vacation League was kind enough to clue me in on the iTunes "convert to mp3" functionality. So I made an mp3 put of it. I'll e-mail it to whoever would like one, and I'll put it on the Quartjar MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/quartjar) as a downloadable track.

Pretty good, R to the B. Right up there with that parody some one did (MetroBlab/SKB?) to the tune of "The Night They Drove ol' Dixie Down" replacing it with The Night They Tore Chicken City Down (and all the chickens were cluckin').

I never heard that one. That's hilarious.
