for an art class at UT, i once made a sculpture of a 3-dimensional representation of a shadow of a 4-dimensional hypercube. (simply put, just as a cube is a construct of 6 equal squares all at 3D right angles to each other, so is a hypercube a construct of 8 equal cubes all at 4D "right angles" to each other.)

my project looked like a cube within a cube, but i made it out of straws and rubberbands so that you could stretch it and turn it inside out (as if you were rotating the hypercube casting this pseudo-shadow into our 3D world). it took 6 people to stretch out and demonstrate. i threw it away once the rubber bands started disintegrating over the years.

ahh, hypergeometry and art. that thing was cool.

every time i see the word "cube", that sculpture comes to mind, as does my history comtemplation of 4D geometry.

Well, Johnny. Sit over here and I'll try to explain. As you get older, you'll notice something growing in your... ah... "funny" area. Other boys will stop laughing at you in the locker room. The priests will lose interest in you but coaches will want you on their "teams." By this time, your voice may start changing deeper--like a bullfrog's! You will occasionally wake up to find out that you have "pitched a tent" in your bed or even made a curious mess that will make your mother mad. This may happen especially after you look at girls in their locker room through the peephole the janitor made. You will start having a lot of really strange feelings that you can't explain and that will make you want to do awful things.

Oh, you said CUBES. I'm sorry. My hearing's going. But you've got a long time to go to worry about that happening to you.
