Perhaps I've been listening to too much Angel and the Love Mongers, but I'm feeling an overwhelming amount of affection for all of you, my Blab pals, this morning. (Well ... most of you. And no, I'm not high.) Checking in on the Blab before I get my day started always lifts my spirits ... not that I have much to complain about. Life is good. (Most of) ya'll kick ass. One of these days I'ma gonna make it down to the Brewery for a Wednesday night gathering. Be cool and have a fabulous Wednesday.

It tickles me in my funny place.
I'm feeling a little warm and glowy myself.
Big group hug all around. :)
Yeah, we really ought to make an effort to do semi-regular blab gatherings.

Blab (KnoxBlab version) 1 year aniversary on July 19th. "Return of 1220" Funhouse show at Barleys on July 21st. Everyone should come on out and meet, drink and be merry.

I will be at the beach on the 21st. Must the blab always make plans when I can't come?

Who's coming out to the Brewpub tonight?
We had planned on the brewery this evening, but due to car troubles, those plans have changed. :(

I wish it were near Chucktown. I was incapable of convincing my parents to go to a decent beach this year.
Thank you for the offer, though.

Good Lord - you're going on vacation with your parents!? I'll notify the prayer circle.

My family always does annual beach trips. My parents, my brothers & their wives, and, most importantly, my nieces.
This will be the first time I get to meet my youngest niece, who was just born a month ago.
Prayers, of course, would still be helpful.

Hey, Jah ... it's not Myrtle Beach, is it? [cringe]
I lived there for about three years. Gatlinburg-by-the-sea, we called it. A most foul and thoroughly distasteful city.

Mt Pleasant just got our first Waves store and a kiddie playland/gocarts/waterpark/pirate thingy. Myrtle Beach has attacked us on our exposed flanks.
I expect a Gay Dolphin and some airbrush t-shirt shops soon.

I heard they were packing up the Pavilion and shipping it your way, Spiney. You gotta watch those Burroughs and Chapin carpetbaggers. They're as persistent as Raincrow after a fifth of Glenlivet.

I wasn't going to admit this, but since clearly I'm not the only one who appreciates and looks forward to conversations among a board full of perfect strangers whom I couldn't pick out of a lineup but whose favorite foods, artists, hangouts, and occupations I could rattle out in a nanosecond, I'll confess:
I have dreams about some of you. Doesn't that seem just a little weird?

We'd take the Pavilion. That's damn fine beach Americana that oughta be saved.

depends. what kind of MPAA rating would you give these dreams?

Yes, of course. Our kitchen table. Anytime someone wants to bring a sacrificial beer, come on over.

All the streams are brown
The main street is Gay
I've been for a walk
On a summer's day
I'll be cool and calm
When I Blab today
Knoxblab a-dreaming
On such a summer's day
Took a left on Church
And passed the Li-bra-ray
Then, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray
You know the Sunsphere likes it hot
K-P says it's gonna stay
All the streams are brown
The main street is Gay
I've been for a walk
On a summer's day
Soon though I'll be drinkin'
It's Brew Pub Wednesday
Oh, Knoxblab a-dreamin
On such a summer's day
On such a summer's day
On such a summer's day

Why does it always have to be the Brewpub? Since my car gave out, making it to the Old City at night is kind of a pain - no late line trolley in the summer, which is fucking stupid. Why not porch of the Longbranch? That's where I'll be tonight, most likely.

Surfside, actually. It's better than Myrtle but not by much.
And Gatlinburg by the sea is exactly right. I tried and tried to get them to go to Charleston, which is where we've gone the last few years, but I failed.
Mental note: look up brew pubs with wifi in the myrtle beach area....

That is such a good plan.

Try Liberty over at Broadway at the Beach. It's usually jam-packed with tourists, but it's a decent little brew-pub. And if you're looking for someplace away from the maddening crowd, Neal's - if it's still there - over on Eighth Ave. North is a fine little watering hole. Not a brewpub, and I don't know about wifi, but it's more of a locals joint. All the European kids who come over to take jobs in the tourist traps for the summer hang out there, or at least they did when I was living there. And if you're looking for some beach real estate away from the hotels, head south toward Georgetown, and go to Huntington Beach State Park. Beautiful beaches and no hotels. I think it's $5 to get in; it's right across from the big sculpture garden place whose name escapes me right now.
Yeah, I remembered Liberty. The last time I was there, it was swarmed by tourists but it still seemed like a pretty decent place. I'll have to remember to look up Neal's.
I guess the big thing will be wifi more than brewpub. I'm not interested in this being a touristy vacation. Good beer, good reads, and internet access is all I want and need.
um, and good food, too.

Brookgreen Gardens?
That's it! Can't believe I couldn't remember, especially since an ex and I discussed getting married there.
