Springdale police are waiting to hear from the Arkansas State Crime Lab on the identity of a body found in a sport utility vehicle pulled out of Beaver Lake Friday afternoon. Investigators think the body is Kelly Lockhart of Springdale, who has been missing since April 2008. Even though investigators haven't confirmed the body belongs to Kelly Lockhart, Lorene Neal knows in her heart it is her niece.
"We have never believed that she just left. It's been our opinion all the time that she had been killed," said Neal.
Neal admits Kelly was not perfect, but believes she knew right from wrong. She said, "She read her Bible a lot. Kelly made lots of mistakes. She knew what the Bible said, not that she lived up to it, but still she tried to point others to the Lord."
Neal now wants answers and justice for her niece. She said, "I don't know the reasons, but I know that nobody deserves a watery grave."
Neal delivers a simple message to Kelly's killer. She said, "I would say confess it. Get it over with. Let us forgive you."
Springdale police say they have two suspects in Lockhart's murder, a man and a woman. Neal said, "We don't know now what happened to her, but I think that we will."
Neal knows an arrest could be made at any time. She said, "It's going to be a difficult road until it's over, but I'm looking forward to the peace that we will have when it's over."
Neal waits for answers, an arrest, and peace.
The Washington County Sheriff's Department says it could take up to three weeks to identify the badly decomposed body that was found in Kelly Lockhart's SUV.
