A South Beach man convicted of strangling a Southridge High senior, then cutting up her body and flushing parts of it down a toilet will remain on death row.
On Thursday the state's Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of 42-year-old Michael Seibert.
The murder happened the night of March 17th, 1998. According to Seibert's roommate at the time, William Green, he, Seibert, Karolay Adrianza and her boyfriend Danny Navarres had done a lot of cocaine in the men's South Beach apartment when Seibert suggested Green and Navarres make a beer run. The two left, but only Green came back to the apartment because Navarres said he had to go buy something else.
About half an hour later, Seibert told Green to leave the apartment because he wanted to be alone with Adrianza.
Green told police he left for a while but since he didn't have a key couldn't get back into the apartment. He said he tried calling several times, but Seibert never answered.
After several more tries, Green finally got Seibert to come to the door. The two argued when Seibert refused to let Green inside and then he threatened to kill himself. Green then called the police to report an attempted suicide.
Miami Beach police worked their way into the apartment and spotted a severed foot next to the bath tub. Going inside the bathroom they found Adrianza's body in the tub.
Most of the soft tissue below her waist had been removed and her left hand, left foot and left ankle had been cut off.
Forensic examination revealed that the cut off flesh and soft tissue, about 40 to 50 pounds, had been flushed down the toilet.
The Medical Examiner Office determined that Adrianza had died of strangulation. They also found she had Seibert's semen inside her, but were unable to determine if he had sex with her before or after she died.
