i like where he asks, "what's wrong with having an intelligent discussion about an election?"

I liked the "Is Gene Patterson gay?" question he wanted to ask Swann. I can honestly say one thing I've never, ever thought about before - even for one tiny second - was Gene Patterson's sexuality.

So piratenews stopped posting here because he was censored? I thought the thread had been closed. I didn't realize he was evicted.
Can he be reinstated now that the Swann v. Lee battle is over?

He was banned as of yesterday morning for the simple reason that I don't have the time to deal with people like him and the problems that they create. I asked very nicely (and privately off of the board) that he just tone down some of his posts. Calling publicly known people derogatory or sexually offensive names is not welcome and will not be tolerated. I didn't remove his original posts, I just asked him to cool it a bit. When he returned, I simply removed what he posted. I don't care what point he was trying to make, in fact, I may even agree with it...I simply don't have the time to deal with the repercussions of letting that stuff stay on here. It creates problems for me and for the Blab. He has his own website, he can keep it there.

How much of a disturbance could he have been if I couldn't tell the difference between him having been banned yesterday or banned a few weeks ago? Were you getting complaints from the people he was ranting about?
#9 was far more disruptive and probably closer to libel than piratenews, but he wasn't banned. A derogatory remark about a public figure is protected speech. Granted, you get to make the rules here, so you can be more restrictive than the government can. I guess I just think letting bigots be bigots lets them discredit themselves, whereas banning them only empowers them.

Yes. I received far more complaints about his posts than anything #9 ever posted.

From the people he badmouthed, or just from people who think anti-Semitism and homophobia suck?
I totally support Rob's decision and not because Lee's gone in after me for some reason I can't figure out.
The stuff he's posting about various specific folks around town is highly defamatory. Rob doesn't need to risk any problems with that.

I would rather not get into that so let's just say that I never realized keeping the Blab healthy would be such an adventure. I don't really care what anyone posts just as long as they're not spamming, however, there is a certain point where I have to draw the line to cover my own ass.
Lee's gone in after me for some reason I can't figure out.
Wow. Apparently my girlfriend and I vacationed for a week at a "gay nudist colony" in Jamaica last year. I did not know that.

I feel bad because I was working on an actual response to some of his 9/11 conspiracy. Not that it's possible to respond to a 10,000-word thesis of paranoia, but there are some odd things about 9/11 that are not well explained. Before I was done, the thread got locked.
The guy is pretty much right that he did not get an intelligent response here. Unfortunately, he quickly spiraled into not really deserving one, but he took a lot of cheap shots too, including from me. He's really not that crazy, just a bit isolated and out-of-touch. I think he needs friends more than a psychiatrist, and I feel bad for my share of the unfriendliness he got here.

I was more than friendly with him and never once responded negative in any way to any of his posts. I wish he could have stayed around. He agreed to "not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws." Unfortunately, he crossed that line multiple times. Feel free to post a response to him. He's still lurking.

A derogatory remark about a public figure is protected speech.
Not if you know it isn't true. You can't say just anything you want to about a public figure and hide behind that public figure claim. If you're lying or falsifying, or disseminating lies on the message board you host, you're liable.
I guess I just think letting bigots be bigots lets them discredit themselves, whereas banning them only empowers them.
I see your point, though I don't think it's always that simple. You let people get carried away, at some point enough people start believing them. And then you, the guy who gave vent to their bullshit, end up being sued right along with the bigot.

Isn't some of that lifted content owned by the Funhouse?
Where are the Blab attorneys with injunctions in hand?
That should rile 'em up.

let me guess, troll? I like the USA location thing like that matters. Just because the site is on the internet doesnt mean someone doesnt own it and control it. So don't go saying this is the USA cause this is the funhouse baby.
EDIT: this reply was to a troll who got canned.
