What are some of your favorite sporting memories. "I was there when UT beat Florida" need not apply. I'm interested in personal/curious stories.

Example: I was watching LSU play Vanderbilt in a baseball game twenty five years ago, and some dude for LSU hit a 500 ft home run(+/-) and it hit a car parked on Garland St. and 25th Ave. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=vanderbilt+baseball&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.839416,56.513672&ie=UTF8&hq=vanderbilt+baseball&hnear=&ll=36.142692,-86.808268&spn=0.003959,0.006899&z=17) Of course, it was my car!! There was a baseball sized dent on the trunk of my car and it was parked pretty close to where this ball would have landed! Amazing shot.

Another example: I used to live in Ann Arbor, MI about 75 yards from Yost Ice Arena (http://www.umich.edu/%7Eyostice/). I would be awakened by loud "goings-on", and I would walk out and it would often be the parties at the "hockey house" across the street. Anyway, I used to go to matches and was amazed at the anachronism that was college hockey at the time 1989-90. Light bulb score boards, no advertising, sold out every night no-matter-what(i.e. no promotions)... amazing atmosphere. Anyway, the thing I remember most was the Rocky and Bullwinkle dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIM043bqSWo) at every game. I later realized that what was most beautiful about college hockey was that they don't fight. If you fight you miss two games which means basically two weeks..., so if you like playing hockey, you don't fight. Imagine that!!?

As an undersized high school quarterback, I knocked a future UT star and all-pro defensive lineman out of a game (temporarily) with an illegal block.

Yes, I paid for it later in the game. Dearly.

No way to quantify it. I couldn't count the number of bruises on my body. Or my psyche.

Hamish Hepburn is the only one here who can explain the sportin' life. And he ain't here.

I'm sure looking forward to some good yarns about traveling the colonies playing cricket. Get well soon Hamish. There are little poetic ditties that can help one keep the order with which one consumes their alcohol straight, but goggle wasn't turning them up for me right now.

So I'll share one of my brother's sports memories. Actually my memory of how funny it was listening to him try and work through whether or not he made the right decision after the fact could be considered one of my memories. Here's Super Mario Cipollini in his prime:

Here he is in 2004 suffering on Brasstown Bald in The 2004 Tour of Georgia:

To give Cippolini a push or not. My brother was watching at one of the 18% parts toward the end and said that Cippolini looked to be needing a push(really needing, and perhaps wanting), but we have always argued about whether disrupting someone's rhythm could be counterproductive (and technically it's against the rules), but on this day, Mario looked like he would have taken all the pushes he could get, but my brother didn't, but ended up wishing he had! His battling himself over this after the fact was funny. Of course I egged him on. YOU had a chance to touch that ass, and you didn't!!? type of stuff.
