In order to provide fans with the best (and driest) concert experience, two upcoming shows at the World's Fair Park are moving to higher ground, a.k.a. the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. This Friday, October 9, WIVK presents the Breaking Southern Ground Tour featuring Zac Brown and special guests, Levi Lowrey, Nic Cowan, and Sonia Leigh, at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Zac and his band pack a hugely entertaining and dynamic show into every concert performance. Tickets are still available: get yours by clickinghere. Next Tuesday, October 13, the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic bring together decades of Southern rock in one night of music—now under the roof of the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Both groups have storied histories and seriously devoted followings. The evening begins with Widespread Panic and closes with the Allman Brothers. Blow out the remains of summer with a classic Southern roots rock jam. Allman Brothers/Widespread Panic tickets. Tuesday for Allman Bros. and WSP looks like it is going to be pretty soggy....
Anyway, it wasn't my call, I am just relaying the message.

I hate the coliseum for concerts. Sounds terrible in there. Can people get refunds because of the venue change? (Not blaming you or anything Ms. M, just curious)

I whole heartedly agree. I hope you can get a refund.

Yeah, this sucks.
I didn't attend the last couple of times WP or certainly the Allman Bros came through town, but bought tickets to this one because of the venue. The Coliseum is awful.
The ticket says this is a rain or shine event, and I understood that up front. And once again, it's the driest time of the year.
it's the driest time of the year.
Historically, yep, but this year it's been a bit of a sogfest, with a good chance of more to come. I don't personally know much about concert logistics, but I don't think I'd care to be maneuvering semis & trailers & so forth on a waterlogged WFP lawn.

So, is there a refund policy for change of venue? I have a friend who is pretty pissed about going to the Coliseum and I told her I would ask on here.

I'm sure there won't be a refund, but I'd sure trade straight-up for some Andrew Bird seats.

At one show this year I had a tow truck pulling a tractor that was pulling the truck that was pulling a mobile stage that was stuck in the mud. Rain is never fun for the troops in the trenches.

Before anyone gets too bent out of shape about this, I suggest you take a visit to the WFP South Lawn. I was there yesterday with the dogs, and there was standing water of over an inch in places. It doesn't look bad from the street, but there's a mud pit underneath that grass. There are some solid patches. But for the most part, it's really too wet. More rain coming tomorrow, and who knows about next week. It's going to take a while to dry out. The Brewers Jam may even be mud fest if held there unless it changes significantly.
I figured there was going to be a backlash about changing the venue. And I don't blame folks a bit for not wanting to attend an outdoor show inside. Too bad they couldn't find another outdoor location. Chilhowee park comes to mind.

I didn't get tickets because Robin Trower came up and, having seen ABB three times, I spent my money on Trower. Now I'm glad I did. But hey, can't control nature.

I saw it from The People's Sunsphere yesterday. The stage area is a big mess. There's no way they could have something there early next week without ripping it all to hell, even if it didn't rain this weekend (and it's going to pour this weekend).
Really, considering it's rained nearly every week for almost a year, I'm not sure why anyone ever thought it was feasible to schedule a concert there in the first place.

Hope they have a good ventilation system or can open some windows, maybe provide some portable showers.

If you are really needing to get to WFP for a gig, go ahead and buy your ticket(s) for the Brewers' Jam Sat., Oct. 24. I can't think of anything better to distract me from the unfortunate beating that 'Bama is going to give us that day than live music (Centralia Massacre, Bobby Bare Juniors's Young Criminals Starvation League, Cutthroat Shamrock, and Brendon James Wright and the Wrongs), "craft" beer (over 35 vendors), and about 4K people enjoying every sip and sound. Better hurry and get your tickets!!

Definitely buy Brewer's Jam Tix in advance as they will not be selling them at the event!
Correct?

Ideally, and more than likely. Makes for a quicker entrance for the thirsty throngs. It sold out in advance last year, and almost the year before. Hence the hope for this year...already well over 2000 tix gone.

Well, it was announced a little over six months ago. Tough to find a crystal ball with that kind of range.

I'm on the ABB mailing list and just got this in my inbox. I wonder why they are using the stage excuse.
Hey there sweet family,
The Allman Brothers Band / Widespread Panic October 13 concert in Knoxville, TN has been moved from Worlds Fair Park to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The change was made to facilitate constructing a stage big enough to accomodate both the ABB and WSP.

That makes sense. I figured it was arranged 2 or 3 months ago.

After looking at some of my old ABB/WSP contacts and riders, the stage has to be 60' x 40' minimum. Add to that the sound and light gear (weight approx 6 tons) then band gear, truck weight, band members, dressing rooms, port-o-lets, catering, generators for work lights, etc etc etc, blah blah blah I don't blame promoter/band management for moving it out of a swamp. Safety is the primary concern for both audience and artist.
It sucks that the show moved, sure, this would be an awesome outdoor show but it is what it is. It would just be unfeasible to be produced on the WFP site.
BTW, I do not work for ABB, WFP, WSP, AC or any other alphabetic entity that has anything to do with this event. I commend them for moving it. Going to cost all involved some cash.

Thanks, Hank. This is sums it all up. The tremendous amount of rain during the past few weeks has greatly impacted the park...every aspect of this show seemed questionable due to that...the technical set up and the experience of all involved...not to mention the long term impact on the condition of the park afterwards and going into winter. No one likes to move a show like this. It's a pain in the ass. We did it because everyone felt that it was in the best overall interests of everyone involved.

Yeah. The Festival Lawn isn't much better. But that's not where the concert would have been.
