For those who might not have heard of the latest creation by Henry Selick this appears to be a really interesting view.

Coraline will be in theatres on February 6th.

And, if nothing else, the site promoting it is pretty amazing not to mention that all the puppets are made by hand.

The writer of course was none other than Neil Gaiman if you didn't already know. This will be his second flick.

My daughter has already started to critique the previews saying that it is not true enough to the book, but I'm looking forward to it. I am a little curious to see how they handle some of the more monsterous creations. I could see it being pretty scary for little kids.

i enjoyed the book but i won't mind if the movie strays from the source material a bit. looks fantastic to me since i'm a sucker for anything stop-motion. love that it's in 3D, too.
speaking of stop-motion, did anybody else see peter and the wolf (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/shows/peterandwolf/), last year's oscar winner for best animated short? i thought it was quite enchanting (and it really made me want a pet runner duck).

It's going to be one of the few movies I'm going to want to see in the theater....maybe Watchmen too depending on the legal matters and my overall nervousness of seeing yet another Alan Moore comic become over simplified, anyway what was I saying oh yeah...It's going to be one of the few movies I'm going to want to see in the theaters just because I think the intricacy of the puppets will translate better on the big screen. I'm a little nervous though...Coraline is a dark little fairy tale and I'm not sure if the studio is willing to go all the way with it.

This will be one Blab thread that I am showing my 11 year old son. Thanks for the link, Georgia. He is a big Coraline fan.

Can't wait to see it, either.

Here's a link to Blog Talk Radio (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/stations/AuthorsOnAir/TheBeyond/2009/01/15/A-Discussion-with-Neil-Gaiman-and-Stephen-Jones). They've interviewed Neil Gaiman about the book and movie, as well as Stephen Jones, who wrote "Coraline: A Visual Companion".

knowing nothing about this coraline stuff.. i thought this thread was going to be georgia's announcement that she has altered her dog , caroline's , name to coraline. a morph of corgi (the breed she is) and caroline...

seriously, that's what i thought. took a huge leap there.
